"Recession" Lowering Your Sales?

Postby Rebekah on Mon Mar 10, 2008 1:00 am

Are you seeing a decrease in sales because of the economy? If so, are you seeing a great decrease or only minor? Is your company doing anything to encourage sales (direct sales people) or are you yourself doing anything?

I have not seen a decrease, in fact I continue to see $100 orders :)

When the countrie's leadership changes, often the economy changes, it will be interesting to see what happens later this year.

I have not seen a decrease either!

My sales are still on pace for my goals and my sales are a little higher than last year. I am noticing a good amount of recruits this year so perhaps due to job loss more folks are trying out DS.

Good point! Direct sales is a great option if you have lost another job.

With Affordable Mineral Makeup I think the recession actually drives sales. We offer a high quality consumable product at a price much below name brand. So someone looking to cut back a little can drop their big brand membership and use our product at substantial savings. While I've only been with AMM for just under 4 months, my sales have grown measurable each month.

National news had a story about Tupperware last night and the focus was that direct sales businesses actually thrive during recession as people are looking for cost-effective products and business opportunities to ward off higher unemployment rates.

I think there seems to be a general shift in attitude on how we shop (online vs using gas to shop out), where our products are coming from (recall issues) and what we are supporting with our dollars (green companies, SAHMs, etc.).

Personally, I think our economy will come out of this better if more people actively choose to support local businesses, small businesses and/or US businesses. It also can't hurt for people to take a good look at the waste in our lives (money, time, resources...).

While it is tough, I think we will be stronger for it. At least that is the way I am choosing to look at it.

I think Vicki has a good point. I know I'd rather shop online than go to a store these days! It's just easier:)
